Kids' Martial Arts in Birmingham
Give your child a sport that builds discipline, confidence and real skill — not just a coloured belt for turning up. Kids' BJJ and wrestling classes are running now at MMA Factory in Harborne.
Why grappling for kids?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling are the perfect children's martial arts: no punches or kicks, full supervision, and progress that has to be earned. Kids learn to solve problems under pressure, lose gracefully, win humbly, and look after their training partners. The fitness takes care of itself.
What a kids' class looks like
- Warm-up games — movement, coordination and fun that sneaks in real athletic development.
- Technique — one or two moves broken down step by step and drilled with a partner.
- Positional games — controlled, supervised live practice where they apply what they've learned.
- Line-up and respect — every class starts and ends with discipline and courtesy.
Proof it works
Our coaches have taken junior students all the way to the top step of the BJJ Junior National Championships — in both gi and no-gi. One of our standout students, Karan, won national gold at 15. Whether your child wants to compete or just grow in confidence, the pathway is here.

Frequently asked questions
What age can my child start?
We take kids from primary-school age through to teens, with classes grouped so everyone trains with similar ages and sizes.
Is BJJ safe for children?
Yes — kids' BJJ has no striking, and classes are supervised, structured and matched by size. It's one of the safest martial arts for children, with the lowest injury rates of any contact sport they could do.
Will it help my child's confidence?
That's the most common thing parents tell us. Earning stripes, solving problems under pressure and being part of a team transforms shy kids — and calms boisterous ones.
What does my child need for the first class?
Just comfortable sportswear and a water bottle. Their first two sessions are free.
