MMA Gym in Birmingham
If you've been searching for an MMA gym near me in Birmingham, here's the short answer: MMA Factory is open now in Harborne, a few minutes off the A456, and your first two sessions are free.
MMA Factory runs out of the full-size sports hall at Lordswood Boys' School on Hagley Road (B17 8BJ) — easy to reach from Harborne, Edgbaston, Bearwood, Quinton, Smethwick and most of west Birmingham. We teach the arts that make a complete mixed martial artist, starting from the ground up.
What you can train
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (gi & no-gi) — positions, sweeps and submissions; the ground game that lets technique beat size.
- Wrestling — takedowns, control and scrambles; the base every mixed martial artist is built on.
- Muay Thai — coming soon.
- MMA classes — running now for 12+, plus Kids MMA for ages 4–12.
Why beginners pick MMA Factory
Most commercial MMA gyms are built around their competition team, and new starters get left on the wall. We've flipped that: classes are structured so a complete beginner can walk in on day one and keep up. You'll be shown everything — from how to tie your belt to your first takedown — by coaches with 25+ years of experience and students on national podiums.
Head coach Jag Paul Plaha is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with over 25 years in martial arts. Coach Amar Johal is a brown belt and active competitor. Between them, their students have stood on the top step at the BJJ Junior National Championships and IBJJF podiums.
Kids, teens and adults
We run classes for every age group — under-12s, juniors, teens and adults. Whether it's a seven-year-old learning discipline and confidence or someone starting at 50 (one of our students took IBJJF gold at around that age), the mats meet you where you are.
