Wrestling Classes in Birmingham
Wrestling is the engine room of modern MMA — and one of the hardest, most rewarding workouts you can do. MMA Factory brings proper wrestling coaching to Harborne, Birmingham.
What you'll learn
- Takedowns — double legs, single legs, body locks and the setups that make them land.
- Takedown defence — sprawls, underhooks and frames, so nobody puts you on the floor without your say-so.
- Top control & rides — staying heavy, breaking posture, advancing position.
- Scrambles — the chaotic exchanges where matches (and fights) are won.
Why wrestle?
Every serious mixed martial artist builds on a wrestling base, because wrestling decides where the fight happens. For BJJ players, wrestling fixes the weakest part of most grapplers' games — getting the fight to the mat on your terms. And purely as fitness, nothing else compares: wrestling practice is strength, cardio and mental toughness in one session.
Beginner-friendly, Birmingham-based
Wrestling barely exists in UK schools, so our classes are built for adults and juniors starting from zero. Technique first, intensity scaled to you. Classes run at Lordswood Boys' School sports hall, Hagley Road, Harborne B17 8BJ — easy reach from Edgbaston, Bearwood, Quinton and across west Birmingham.
Frequently asked questions
Is wrestling good for MMA?
It's arguably the single most important base for MMA — wrestling decides where the fight happens. Strong wrestlers choose whether a fight stays standing or goes to the ground.
I've never wrestled — can I start as an adult?
Absolutely. Unlike the US, most UK adults never wrestled at school, so our classes assume no background at all.
Is wrestling a good workout?
It's one of the hardest conditioning workouts in sport. Expect to be humbled by the cardio before you're humbled by the takedowns.
